A portfolio keeps your artwork clean and organized. It usually is some kind of large paper, cardboard, plastic, rubber, or leather folder. Portfolios also do a great job at documenting your artwork over a period of time. In 6th grade we will be making a portfolio to keep your art damage-free and to document your 6th grade art exploration.
Side note: Many artists keep digital portfolios to go along with their traditional one. You could even use instagram as a digital portfolio... if you are 13 years or older.

If you want to make the best portfolio ever, use a cardboard box from an appliance. I used to go to stores and ask them for their extra boxes.
Here are 6th grade student examples of portfolios. They should at least have your name on the front, but these students decided to be more awesome than that.
